Annual Prize Distribution Function
The Annual Prize Distribution Function was organized on 4th March 2006. Member Parliament , Mr. Gurjit Singh Rana was the Chief Guest, and Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Sameer Kumar, IAS was the Guest of Honour. Many Ex-Principals, professors, Old Students and other eminent personalities of the city were present.
After the Academic Procession's Entrance, Saraswati Vandana and Shabad were recited. Principal Dr. Om Kumari Patial read out the Annual Report, outlining the achievements of the college as well as the problems faced by it. She also discussed the needs of this historical College.
The Chief Guest Presented Rolls of Honour, Gold Medal, College Colours, Merit certificates and other prizes in Academic , cultural and sports fields to the outstanding students.
Mr. Gurjit Singh Rana, Member Parliament, Praised the college and appealed to the students to resist temptations like drugs and alcohol and to stay focused on their goals. He announced a grant of Rs. 15 Lakh out of his Discretionary Quota, also adding that if the old student Association would match the grant, he would contribute another 10 lakh rupees to the college.
Annual Sports Day
- The 102nd Annual Sports and Athletic Meet was held on 9th & 10th February 2006. Arjuna Awardee, Mr. Sajjan Singh Cheema, DSP, International Basketball Player, and Member, Sports Promotion Committee, Punjab, Inaugurated the meet. The guests of Hounor were Arjuna Awardee Parminder Singh, International Basketball Players Kuldeep Singh Cheema, Bhagat Singh Bhandal, Sahota Brothers (all old students of the college), and Satish Kumar, Deputy Director, Sports, Punjab.
- Padamsri Pargat Singh, Director, Sports, Punjab (renowned Captain of Indian Hockey Team) was the chief Guest on the concluding day.
- While addressing the students, Mr. Pargat Singh discussed the importance of health and fitness and the ill effects of drugs and intoxicants on the youth. The Students who had won various athletics events felt privileged receiving their awards from such a distinguished Sports Person.
- Harpreet Singh, BA III amongst the boys and Sugam Soni BA I, amongst the girls, were declared the best Athletes at the occasion.
Sathapana Divas and Basant Utsav
College was established on Basant Panchami. Sathapana Divas was celebrated with Havan and Ved Path, on 2nd February 2006, praying for its continuous development of and reaching greater heights.
International Women's Day
- A seminar was conducted to commemorate International Women's Day on March2006.
- Mrs. Satvinder Kaur (Economics Deptt.) read her paper on--"The Vanishing Girl Child-Demographic Profile".
- Mrs. Chiranjeev Kaur's (English Deptt.) Paper dealt with "Empowering Women in Rural Punjab.
- Dr. Mrs. Om Kumari Patial emphasized the need for women to be assertive in the fulfillment of their rights and aspirations. At the same time there was need for personal development in girls so that they were instrumental in improving their families after marriage.
- Mrs. Saroj Bala Verma, Vice Principal spoke on the need for equal treatment to the girl child.
- Dr. Sudeep Bhangoo discussed the need for "Raising the self Esteem of the Girl Child".
- Sharanjit and Gursharan, both Postgraduate students, enumerated the problems faced by girls in villages, but said girls were ready for the struggle to empower themselves despite all odds.
AIDS Awareness Day
- AIDS Awareness day was organized in the College on 18th sept 2005.
- A questionnaire was given to the students to assess their awareness about AIDS.
- Chief Guest was Dr. Sharanjit Singh , SMO, Civil Hospital.
- Dr. Amandeep Kapila, Civil Hospital, Kapurthala was the chief speaker. he outlined the causes, spread, treatment and prevention of this deadly disease.
Lohri Celebration
Lohri was celebrated in the college on 13th January 2006. Professor Sukhpal Singh Thind elaborated on the history of Lohri . Dr. Mrs. Om Kumari Patial lit the traditional fire and exhorted the students to burn all evil thoughts and feelings and live together peacefully and in harmonious cooperation. The students were distributed the traditional rewri and peanuts. The students danced and made merry to the beats of the Dhol played by ex-student Sukhi. The staff also participated.
Paath and Community Langar
Paath of Sukhmani Sahib (religious prayer for peace and contentment) was held in the college before the exams on 1st march 2006 and ardas (prayer) was performed for the students to do well in the Annual Examinations. Mr. Kulwant Singh Aujla conducted the proceedings. Mr. Raghbir Singh Diwana was the Chief Speaker. He elaborated on the importance of the PEN. The Staff and Students together performed the prayers actively and verbally. Afterwards the staff and students partook of the Community Langar, sitting in rows on the ground. The funds for the Langar was prepared and served by the students with true humility and religious spirit.
Seminar on Drug De-addiction
A Seminar was conducted on Dec 6th 2006 under the aegis of community policing Resource Centre on Drug De-addiction. SSP Rajiv Aheer, IPS, emphasized the need for staying away from drugs
Giddha Team
Incharge: Mrs. Anita Sagar
- The giddha team of the college, got first prize in the Giddha Competition. organized by Municipal Committee (Nagar Council), Kapurthala, on the occasion of Basant Mela.
- A 20 member Giddha team prepared by Prof Anita Sagar Participated in the District Level Republic Day celebrations 26th January.
- Wetland day was celebrated at Kanjli on 2nd February, in collaboration with NGO Pehal, Deputy Commissioner, Kapurthala, Sh. Sameer Kumar, Inaugurated the function and the ADC, Kapurthala, gave away the prizes. The host team won the Quiz Competition.
