Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia Government College, erstwhile knowns as Randhir Government College, Kapurthala takes pride in being one of the oldest educational institutions of northen India. It was established as a Sanskrit Vidyalaya and named as Randhir College in the year of 1856 by Raja Randhir Singh.Affiliated to Calcutta University since 1877, it came to be associated in 1882 with the newly established Panjab University Lahore.

N.J.S.A. Government College, Kapurthala had been teaching proffesional skills such as photography, shorthand and typing long before the advanced degree courses in Natural Science, Commerece and Computer Science were introduced. Presently the College is catering the needs of different students in various streams-arts, science,commerce and computer with various courses including Post-Graduate courses in English,Economics,Commerece and Computer Applications. The extensive inventory of illustrious alumni consisting of eminent administrators, statesmen,sportspersons,artists and academicians indicates its rich heritage and the ethos favourable for fostering creative skills among the students.

In the changing scenario of the 21st Century, the mission of the college is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge of science,commerce and social science to enpower educationally weaker sections of the society with the tools to achieve all round development, to inculcate social and civic responsibilities amongst the students so that they become responsible citizens and the pride of future Indian.
